PROJECT:
The program challenges participants to design a NEW National Library in Cairo that takes into account the recent events of damaged historical manuscripts and maps. The propose design should have technology at its core and how it can be leverage in such a space or environment as a whole.
The building should serve as a central public meeting place for learning, reading and research - a distinguished public building of high international architectural quality and sensibility.
The proposal should incorporate at least the following spaces and consideration clearly detailed and justified as participants are free to decide on the ratio, size and location of the Project:
Public, Semi-Public and Private Areas
Circulation
Services
Access
Total Area: Open to participants.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
There are no special conditions.
COMMENTARY:
It is the organiser's intention for this stage (Stage 1) of the competition to be as design constraints free as possible to allow competitors' ideas for the chosen site and designs to be as creative and test the boundaries of what is possible. However exciting and challenging the creative opportunity presented within such few parameters may be, it is equally important that any proposal exhibit an amount of functionality and viability.
ELIGIBILITY:
Architects
Architecture Graduates
Architecture Students
Team (Architects, Architecture Graduates, Architecture Students )
Inter-Disciplinary Teams (engineers, designers in-conjunction with an architect).
Submissions can be the work of an individual or a group up to 4 members (architects, architecture graduates or architecture students etc) between the age of 18 and 45 years of age at the time of registration. Registration and participation in the competition implies an immediate acceptance by entrants of all terms & conditions governing the site and competition.
INELIGIBILITY:
Employees, consultants, agents of ArchTriumph.
Employees, partners, friends, family, personnel, office practice or studios associated with any of the Jury.
Persons who have taken part in the organisation of the Competition or the writing of the architectural brief
Persons involved in the establishment or in the preparation of the program (including any feasibility for the Competition site or topic).
REGISTRATION:
Entrants may register by filling the online registration form and submitting it with the relevant payment by Debit/Credit card through a secure gateway.
FEES:
Every entrant shall be required to pay an entry fee as follows:
Special Registration: $100 US from 2nd April 12:00 (GMT) to 16th April 2012 11:59 (GMT)
Early Registration: $120 US from 16th April 12:00 (GMT) to 19th June 2012 11:59 (GMT)
Standard Registration: $150 US from 19th June 12:00 (GMT) to 20th July 2012 11:59 (GMT)
Late Registration: $250 US from 20th July 12:00 (GMT) to 24th August 2012 11:59 (GMT)
Note:
Fees are not refundable under any circumstance as stated in the terms and conditions. All deadlines are 11:59 Hours (GMT)
METHOD OF PAYMENT
Applications to register and qualification for the various levels of Competition registration fees must arrive no later than 11.59 hours (GMT) on the date specified in the Timetable.
