Sony and D-Photo are on the hunt for New Zealand’s best camera phone photographer of the year and we’ve got plenty of excellent prizes for those eager to test their skills.

Each month the nation’s finest camera phone photographers can submit their best phone-snapped images to be published on D-Photo‘s Facebook page, with the monthly champion taking home a brand new Sony Xperia U smartphone (worth $399) and going forward to contest the title of New Zealand Camera Phone Photographer of the Year 2012.

Entering The Best Camera Phone Photo Contest


To enter simply take a photo using whatever camera phone you have, using any of your favourite imaging apps to help create it, and send it via email to dphotocomp@gmail.com with the subject ‘Camera Phone competition’.

The email should also include details of the phone used, any apps used as well as the name and contact details of the photographer.

We will then post your image to the competition album on D-Photo‘s Facebook page, where you can tag it as your own and the public can vote for it using the ‘like’ function.

Images can be submitted from the first day of the month through to the last, voting will continue until ten days past the month’s end to give later entries time to accrue votes. The June competition submissions close June 30 votes will be finalised at 5pm, July 10.

Each month a guest judge will select a winning image from the eligible entries to win the monthly prize and automatically be submitted to the competition’s final round in January 2013.

Along with composition, light, colour, creativity and editing Judges will also consider an image’s popularity, as measured by ‘likes’, as a factor in their decision.

The grand prize-winner will be named New Zealand Camera Phone Photographer of the Year 2012 and win a Sony Xperia P smartphone (worth $649).

  • New Zealand Camera Phone Photographer of the Year 2012 is only open to residents of New Zealand.
  • Submitted images should not have been previously published (image sharing websites and personal blogs are alright).
  • All entries must have been taken with a camera phone and all editing done with in-phone apps.
  • Previous D-Photo competition entries are not eligible.
  • Entrants may submit a maximum of three images per monthly competition; no entry may be submitted in multiple months.
  • To enter you must be the photographer of all submitted content and either the legal copyright holder or have permission from the copyright holder.
  • You fully indemnify D-Photo and its sponsors against any claims arising from third parties in the event that your submitted image infringes intellectual, property or model rights if published by D-Photo and its sponsors for promotion or acknowledgment of the competition and/or exhibition.

What is Australia Shutterbug Photo Award?

The vision behind The Shutterbug Award is to give all photographers an opportunity to show some of their best work via this competition platform.
