Youth Teen Writing Competition
all contest #competition - The library is accepting submissions for the third-annual Teen Writing Competition, an event that encourages and inspires local youth writers.
Darien teens are encouraged to enter the competition through electronic submissions in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Students in seventh through 12th grades may submit their work to teenstaff@darienlibrary.org.
Entries will be divided among three format categories and into two grade categories: seventh through ninth grades; and 10th through 12th grades. The judges will choose a first-place winner, second-place winner and recipients of honorable mention in each category and age group. First-place winners receive $100 and second-place winners receive $25. In addition, all entries will be collected in a printed volume that will be available free to the public.
The competition runs through Tuesday, Feb. 28; an awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 31, during which judges will announce the winners. All contest entrants and their families and friends are invited to the awards ceremony.
The Youth Teen Writing Competition rules are as follows: fiction and non-fiction entries must be 1,000 words or fewer; poetry entries must be 30 lines or fewer; entries must be typed, double-spaced (except for poetry which can be single-spaced) and use a simple 12-point font; all submissions are final. Corrections and replacements will not be accepted; the author's name must not appear on the entry itself, only on the cover sheet.
